Temperatures are dropping in the UK and snow is falling on the high ground, which means the Spring 19 release of Salesforce is just around the corner. In keeping with established tradition, Clive Platt and I presented our 20th release webinar on January 30th (watch on-demand) with details of all the new and updated functionality.
The Spring 19 is another big release, with 457 pages of release notes. We've been through them all and chosen our 6 favourite features (Note that these features are still in pre-release and aren't guaranteed to go live in Spring 19, or indeed ever!).
1 Custom Help
Since my first enterprise scale Salesforce implementation 10 years ago, customers have been creating their own help content, and using techniques like custom links on home pages to make it available to users. In Spring 19 these compromises are no longer necessary due to the introduction of Custom Help - your very own piece of the help menu. Name the custom help section however you want and add up to 15 links to resources tailored to your implementation and this will appear at the top of the help menu on every page in the Lightning Experience.
2 Increased Data Storage
Something else that has been fairly consistent across implementations that I've been involved in is complaints about the lack of data storage space, especially once a large amount of historic data is migrated from the existing system. While these complaints might continue with large data volumes, they should at least reduce as the minimum data storage is increasing from 1Gb to 10Gb!
3 Pin List Views
It's finally possible to switch from the Recently Viewed default list view and have your selection stick across sessions with the Pin List Views functionality. Simply click the pin icon to the right of the list view name to
4 Lightning Joined Reports
Another long awaited feature becomes Generally Available in the Lightning Experience - Joined Reports. For the uninitiated, Joined Reports allow up to five standard or custom report types to be used in a single report as long as they share a common relationship. A typical use case for Joined Reports is to show the Opportunities, Cases and Orders associated with Accounts in a single report, and you can now use them without switching back to classic!
5 Move Chatter Feed Items
I've lost count of how often I post something to my profile that I intended to go into a Chatter Group, which I then delete and recreate in the correct place. I'm sure I'll continue to post to the wrong place, but with the ability to move a feed item to the correct group without recreating it, I'll at least be able to rectify it quickly.
6 Lightning Web Components
